My website originally used to be 100% dedicated to my graphic design portfolio as I crafted it in the first place for my final project for my degree. After I had graduated and went wild with knitting as opposed to digital designs I had brainstormed what to evolve my website into and wanted to find ways to share my favorite hobby.
This blog has been really great for letting me plaster my larger thought trains on here but, my brain is always thinking about knitting and I knit way more than I blog. This has created the dilemma of a lot of finished objects and even though I love everything I make I do not have enough space to store all of them.
Most of my projects were made for myself because I have been learning how to create garments that will fit me and learning new construction techniques along the way so everything I have made has a flaw here and there while I was learning. I am also a fairly selfish knitter which is fine to be because of how much goes into each project but, the projects will start to pile up.
With that said, as I reviewed my completed projects, I realized it was time to let go of some of them. Consequently, I removed my previous store and established a new one exclusively for showcasing and selling my handknit creations.
I do want to touch on the pricing because as a crafter/artist/maker, we tend to short-sell ourselves. I probably still am, but each item has been made with high-quality yarn and took a long time to make by hand, which makes each item a one-of-a-kind unique piece.
The top pictured below is a one example; the Mystic Square Crop by James N Watts is knitted with Noro Tsubame which consists of
50% Silk
25% Wool
25% Manufactured Fibers - Nylon / Polyamide
So, this is a silk/wool top that will regulate your temperature really well, has nylon in it to give it strength, and has a beautiful drape while also being soft and bouncy. This was the very first top I ever made, as well as it being my very first modular knit, so I learned a lot of new construction techniques. If I were to try making this again, my colors would not line up the same as I most likely have different tension in my knitting now, and the colors are so unique with the construction method of knitting one square and adding on to it with others. I even went back a few days later to take the non-stretchy binding out and re-knit a stretchy binding so that it would be even more comfortable. It is incredible that everything handmade is unique.
I've only worn this top twice since I should have knitted it larger as I like my crops a bit more drapey but, if it can be worn and loved by someone else and does not need to be hiding in my closet.
I hope you will check out my new shop and read the details of each listing. I always hope to inspire someone to start knitting so if you ever feel like reaching out I am happy to guide you and start the learning process or if you are curious of a pattern I can send you the link of the design I followed.
Until my next post, happy fiber arts!
